On 1 October, Venerable You Ji, Manager of Nan Tien Art Gallery, was invited to conduct a class at Nan Tien Institute on Buddhist Art as Visual Communication, focusing on the History of Chinese Buddhist Art. The lesson, based on the Encyclopedia of Buddhist Arts, explored six key stages: Germination, Growth, Maturity, Decline, Transformation, and Humanistic Buddhism. While earlier periods traced the development of Buddhist iconography, the Humanistic Buddhism section introduced contemporary Buddhist art, featuring modern artists including Venerable You Ji herself. The class concluded with a mindfulness drawing activity, where students engaged in creative doodling as a form of meditative practice. The session was warmly received, with students appreciating the blend of academic insight and hands-on experience that brought Buddhist philosophy to life through art.
