Community Engagement Art Project 2024 – Nan Tien Affinities officially opened on 22 September at Nan Tien Art Gallery, with Wollongong City Council Lord Mayor Cr. Gordon Bradbery AM and Fo Guang Shan Head Abbot Most Venerable Hsin Bau officiating the ceremony. Organised exclusively for Illawarra artists, the annual exhibition provides a platform for creative expression and community connection. This year’s theme, Nan Tien Affinities, explores the personal and spiritual ties between over 30 participating artists and Nan Tien Temple. Through diverse and captivating artworks, the exhibition invites audiences to reflect on the intersection of art, place, and meaning, fostering deeper engagement with the local cultural and spiritual landscape. Artist Brittany Mari Ruiz said Nan Tien Art Gallery connects artists with the community, fostering cultural exchange and harmony. She felt honoured to participate. Artist Daniel May was inspired by the Buddhist spirit of harmony in Master Hsing Yun’s life. He believes Nan Tien Temple’s 30-year milestone is worth celebrating by all, including non-Buddhists.
