The Fo Guang Shan Institute of Humanistic Buddhism, Nan Tien Institute, and four other universities, including the University of the West in the USA, jointly hosted the Humanistic Buddhism Colloquium on Compassionate Futures online from 9-10 November. This unique event followed a 24-hour relay format across different time zones and attracted 595 participants. Over 40 experts and scholars came together to discuss pressing global issues such as climate change and social inequality. Graduate students from Nan Tien Institute, Lo-An Nguyen and Joseph Frawley, shared their insights on integrating compassion into daily life. Venerable Dr. Jue Wei, Director of the Humanistic Buddhism Centre at Nan Tien Institute, announced the upcoming launch of the MettāVerses website in 2025, aimed at building compassionate communities.The discussions and outcomes from the colloquium have been compiled into the book Cultivating Compassion: Going Beyond Crises, available for free download.
